I bought a Thai green tea (height was just above my ankle) just at the start of quarantines. After few months it grew so straight and tall that it started to sway with the wind specially during the typhoon days. I researched on how to propagate it but was so worried that if I cut the thin trunk, the mother plant will wither and die.
One day I saw the leaves were starting to fall off. And the snails were feeding on the new leaves. Doubtfully I cut the trunk and made cuttings per node leaving a single leaf in each cutting. I planted each and just left it under the rain and sun. After 2 days the leaves fell off from each cutting. I thought that was the end of it. With so much rain the past days the little branch might got overly soaked and rot. But I got surprised after few days. Small leaves are growing where the old leaf fell from. The mother plant sprouted new leaves too. I will have a dozen of tea plants in few weeks.
Sometimes cutting off from the mother plant is worth taking the risk. New beginnings can be scary but will feel more rewarding when you succeed.
