Adapted from a priest's homily I heard decades ago...
A priest who was giving a seminar for grade 2 students preparing them for their first communion asked: "Who among you would like to go to heaven?" All, except one kid, a girl, raised their hands. The priest assuming she didn't hear what the question was repeated and this time, aloud. "Who among you would like to go to heaven?". The same kids raised their hands except that same girl. Curiously he approached the little girl and asked: "Don't you want to go to heaven?" The girl replied "Kasi po, kasi po, sabi po ng nanay ko hwag daw po ako pupunta sa mga lugar na hindi ko alam". Translated 'Because, because my mother said I should not go to places I did not know about'.
There are times we are asked the same question and we quickly reply just like the majority of the kids. But have we asked ourselves...do we really know where/what heaven is? Based on what we learned from school, heaven is the place where we will go after death if we lead a good life on earth. But is there anybody who'd been there to tell us where, what and how we get there?
A very good friend of mine, a priest, told me before, "...if he is making a hell out of your life, you better leave. You deserved to be in heaven". And I am still here - alive!
Checking on one of the simplest meanings of heaven it read: "Heaven -any place of complete bliss and delight and peace".
"...any place", it could be here in this world, it could be here in my house, it could be inside my bedroom. It only needs to satisfy the meaning "of complete bliss and delight and peace". Heaven then could not just really be literally a place, it could be a condition. A condition where we are in complete bliss, delight and peace with ourselves, with our neighbour, with our God. Heaven is a state of living. Living without grudges, hate, selfishness which create a chaotic world. We do have a choice.
So, would you like to go to heaven?
